A reader sends information regarding The 2006 Annual Meeting of Chemical Engineers, extensively slanted to medical topics, to take place November 12 - 17 at the San Francisco Hilton.

A few of the conferences that caught my eye include:

*The US-Japan Joint Topical Conference on Medical Engineering, Drug Delivery Systems and Therapeutic Systems. An overview of this says, in part:
Recent advances in medical engineering have come by combining chemical engineering principles, intelligent material design, and nanotechnology. Examples are developments in micro- and nanostructured systems including carriers for controlled and targeted drug delivery, micropatterned devices, medical devices, etc. Advanced methods are now used to build biohybrid systems for drug delivery, drug targeting, and tissue engineering devices. Why is there such an explosion in the field now? Electronic device sizes are now comparable to biological macromolecules. This raises possibilities for combining microelectronics and biotechnology to develop powerful, versatile new technologies such as microfabricated and nanofabricated devices.

*Product Design. The topic addresses the latest developments in the area of chemical-product design, including technical, management, and educational issues. It highlights the broad and interdisciplinary nature of product design with sessions focused on property estimation, sustainability, polymers, biomaterials, education, and business considerations. Techniques to evaluate and screen proposed products at the early stages of development, as well as methods for integrating product and process design will be discussed.
