Make sure your resident doctor has golf planned for the day you check into his hospital. That will assure you he or she is not overworked. Why is that important?
Because a report in the Archives of Internal Medicine says a heavier workload for hospital residents on the day patient’s are admitted is associated with an increased length of hospital stay, higher total costs, and greater risk of inpatient death. Ouch.
Residents are physicians at hospitals receiving additional training in a specialty under the supervision of an attending specialist. The article says a recent reduction in duty hours for house staff have led to substantial changes in residency team structures. Read the rest at:
