David Lorenzo at Career Intensity wrote a great post about 5 things to do before the end of the year

Here are his suggestions:
  • Dedicate 30 minutes each day between now and the end of the year to focusing on little steps toward a big goal.
  • Make one phone call to a former business associate each day.
  • Write a hand written note to someone who was featured in an article in the newspaper.
  • Make friends with someone in an elevator, on line at the supermarket or in the post office.
  • Collect business cards.

I'll add a suggestion:
Make sure your resume is up to date Doing this once a year when you don't "have to" will make it much easier should you ever "need to." It will also make you think about where your career is going. If you have nothing new to put on your resume for the year, you'd better do something about it.
